I’m NOT a school mum! There I said it.

With 8 kids at 4 different schools it could almost be classified as a full time job if we attended all assemblies, dances, concerts, plays and awards. Let’s admit it, our kids get awards these days JUST for attendance. Shouldn’t that just be expected? Anyway…… that’s a whole other post.

Don’t misunderstand this post. I love my kids, I love watching them succeed, I love watching them have fun and perform with their friends and I’m proud of each and every one of them. I love watching the dances and songs, seeing the end result of all their hard work. I love that!!

What I don’t like? You ask. There are a few things.

The time! More often than not they are held right on witching hour. It’s tea, bath, bed time in most houses and it’s inconvenient. Younger siblings have to be dragged along, tired or Hungry or both. Wriggling and crying trying to be calmed and quietened by stressed out mums.

Most of these performances occur in term 4 on top of graduations and end of year class parties stretching already tired kids, parents and especially teachers. Most of these performances are hosted by teachers and support staff in their own time. Which I don’t think should be expected of them. These elaborate things don’t just get thrown together in an afternoon either, there is also costumes and practices in the lead up. I’m sure there is some songs these teachers will NEVER listen to again. 😂

The repetition, year after year the same speeches and awards. Only the students change. We once sat through a two and half hour year 6 graduation where each student (about 60) gave a speech. Great idea in theory but they were all almost identical! It was physically painful to sit and listen for that long.

I do not know what the solution is for the issues I have. I am also hoping I’m not the only parent who feels this way. If they hold them during the day the working parents miss out. There is also the parents who will never go regardless of when they have it.

Don’t even get me started on bring a plate!!

Thanks for stopping by
